Self Defense
4 session organized with a engagement and a norm of 12 participants; the sessions were started by a prayer, after that we could start with some physical exercises and a movement of self defense. Those activities extend the self confidence of the girls; they realized that they have that capacity to defend themselves and that they have that right. It is hard for some of the girls because they do not own pants.
Curriculum
It was so interesting during 4 sessions of learning on different lessons of the GWP curriculum ; we did the journey from the tenth to the sixteenth lesson ; the thing which marked the joy of the team, was to see how Jesus choose to reveal himself as the son of God by passing by women: by the women he was born, and it was the women who informed that he was raised from the dead; it is the woman who saw him first and it’s her who went to inform people in a time when women were not seen as valid witnesses. This shows us how God considered her and gave her the value she deserved. On another hand, we win the fear over death when we learned that the Spirit of God who raised Jesus from the dead is in us , the One who raised Jesus from the dead will bring our bodies to life by His Spirit which is in us. And this is and will be the valid reality of all aspects of our lives.
GWP Home Visit
I went to visit one girl member of the group at her house; Florence, a girl who survived after being raped, who after being raped she became pregnant and now has a daughter (Patricia who is now 3years old).
With the support of a friend, we were able to help her start a small business of chalks and french-fries; She has to work hard so that she can have school supplies for the next school year.
We went to encourage her because she lost her joy since she has been raped.
Planned Activities for Next Month
-Organize 4 sessions of self defense learning and exercises
-Train one or two leaders who are going to replace Patricia because she is leaving Goma for her studies. Train also two peoples in the group in photography because Mica is going too.
– Study and share on 6 lessons of the curriculum
-Organize a visit in one of our member’s family
– Organize a prayer session with the group
-Participate to organization of the brave girl event with Africa New Day.
The chain of prayer worked very well the past month; Every week from Monday to Sunday there are at least two people at a time always praying for our needs and for the organization in general.
Testimony
I’m Esther Esther Hangi, 22 years old. I am in one of the GWP groups in DRC (Democratic Republic of Congo). The teachings that we receive through the curriculum are very constructive for our spiritual life, they help us to grow and develop our self esteem as young girls; According to the sport and self defense, every time when I participate, I found myself in a new world with new experience. I didn’t have the habit of exercise but since joined the GWP group, I enjoy this part; now I love to do it even by myself at home. I feel better, I found that exercise is really importance for our health. I lost some pounds. Despite of this, it helped me develop my self esteem; I’m sure that in case there is a dangerous situation around me, I can defend myself and others ; Now I know some self defense skills ; Nobody can hit me or rape me. Sometimes I joke with my brothers saying that I can even defend them even if they are men. I’m strong, very strong.
Love always,
Mama Claudine, Graceful Warrior Chief, Congo
